Pastor Alan O. Stayton

My Story

Alan Stayton was born on September 20th, 1959 in St Louis, MO to Francile Stayton. Soon after, his mother relocated to Detroit, MI and it is in this city that the hand of the Lord would begin to direct their lives in a very deliberate manner.

In 1978, Alan joined the U.S Air Force and began decorated military service that would span 30 years, ending in retirement in February 2008, achieving the rank of CMSgt, the highest enlisted rank possible.

In 1980, he married Mary Alice Goins in Tucson, AZ during his time at Davis-Monthan AF base, and their first child together, Alan, was born in 1981. The next year they received orders to Spain were their second child together, LaChelle, was born in 1983. During their time in Spain, the Lord gave him an opportunity to attend and eventually pastor the base chapel protestant service in the housing area, and this was a proving time in their life and his walk with the Lord.

In 1986, the family was reassigned for duty at Luke AFB, Phoenix, AZ, but the significant event that happened their was membership at Bethel The House of God, where Elder Gregory Newman was pastor. This is the place God chose to unlock his word and grant him the revelation on understanding so that his spiritual growth would be significant. Pastor Newman’s revelation would be the platform from which clarity of God’s word would unfold, and he would begin to move more directly by God’s unction.

In 1993, they received orders to go to Okinawa AB Japan, and would understand this to be a proving ground for their marriage, military, and spiritual careers. Hurdles and roadblocks seemed the order of the day from arrival. Finding a place to worship was important, Alan just didn’t know it wasn’t for him, but for those he would come in contact with and share through perseverance, how God can make trouble turn into triumph. His wife seemed to experience growth there even though he was experiencing pain, but through it all they made it with scars, but still intact. One thing that really inspired Alan, as they prepared to leave in 1997, were the words of one of the pastor’s he worked with while he was there. He said to him how impressed he was that Alan humbled himself enough to stay in a help ministry, when he could have easily started his own ministry and had a good following because he felt Alan's understanding was in that kind of place. That statement would let him know he did the right thing and followed the right direction!

In 1998, the family arrived at their next duty station, RAF Lakenheath, England, and immediately his knowledge of the word would be requested and repeatedly called upon to help direct the church they were attending, to grow in the knowledge, and understand the truth of the word. He was afforded a number of preaching, but more especially teaching opportunities there assisting the saints to a higher level of spiritual insight, and he became aware that his gift was to teach even though he operated in the ministry of preaching. Once their children graduated and began to move onto the next part of their life, they were honored to be elevated in their military career to SMSgt, and had a number of major deployments during this time frame.

In 2001, they were reassigned to Langley AFB, Hampton, VA. The blessings of the Lord followed them there and he was able to achieve a milestone in his military career, being elevated to the rank of CMSgt, which was a truly blessed moment in his military career!  He also started a ministry in their home and felt as though this was what he was supposed to be doing, but had a place in his spirit that felt there was still more to do. His father experienced a stroke in May 2008, and he was led to stand in for him once a month by driving from Hampton to Detroit, and while his father was in the hospital and during his recovery. To all our dismay, in July 2008 the Lord called him to rest and Alan felt a call to move to Michigan to continue the ministry. In June 2009, they relocated to Macomb, MI, and started to Pastor Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
